FAQs (Including Mailboxes, Watering, Trash Pickup, Repainting, Reroofing, etc.)
Question: What are the Post Office mailbox requirements?
Answer: According to the Post Office, mailboxes should be installed 45" from the street level to the bottom of the actual mailbox door. Even a couple of inches make a difference to prevent injury to the carrier. It is very important that you not use existing neighborhood mailboxes as your guide as they may be under old standards. The Post Office is only requesting new patrons AND those making changes to existing mailboxes to adhere to the following requirements. Eventually as patrons leave and new ones move in, all mailboxes will be at the proper new height standards.
The Post Office asks that you properly measure and install boxes to 45" from the street level. Postal trucks are higher than regular cars and the height of the door opening needs to be above the carrier's window. Carriers need to be able to see inside the mailbox to retrieve outgoing mail and to avoid spiders, bees, scorpions, etc. Consistency in height requirements is important for the safe delivery and pickup of mail from the postal vehicle. The Post Office asks that all postal patrons adhere to these requirements.
The house number should be on the right side of the mailbox in the carrier's line of travel.

Question: Why are we required to maintain post lamps in an operable condition to keep them lit from dusk until dawn?
Answer: Due to the limited street lights in our community (which are primarily on street corners only), these lights are considered necessary to achieve effective lighting to meet minimum safety standards. Everyone should regularly monitor their lamps to ensure they have a good bulb and a working light sensor that automatically turns the lamp on at dusk and off at dawn. This issue is addressed in our Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Easements, Page 21, Article VII, Section 2 (e).
Question: The grass and weeds on the roadsides are high. How often are the roadsides mowed?
Answer: The County Roads Maintenance Department provides for approximately 6 cuts per year which works out to about every 6-8 weeks within season. The supervisor stated that the county has contracted out for mowing of the roadsides within Citrus Hills, and they have been closely monitoring the contractors for payment purposes. Wet weather can be a contributing factor to extensive growth during the rainy season.
Question: What are the current watering restrictions?
Answer: As of
June 23, 2020, lawn watering is restricted to once a week. The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners adopted Ordinance 2020-A17, effective June 23, 2020. Water restrictions are enforced for all sources of water on or beneath the surface of the ground, including water withdrawn from wells. Restrictions apply to use of in-ground irrigation systems, hose-end sprinklers, hand watering, or any other means of applying water to grass.
If you have installed new plant material within the last sixty days or have another valid reason for this water use, please contact our office at 352-527-7669 to provide details.
